Valentine’s Day is a traditionally difficult day for me. My wonderful boyfriend, who lives in Texas, does his best to make the day happy but obviously it’s not the same as having the one you love sitting right next to you. We’ve been together for 3 years and we’ve only gotten to spend one Valentine’s Day together so I’m feeling slightly down, especially with all of the love and happiness fluff floating around campus. It’s all very hard to embrace when the person I’d want to do all the fluff with is halfway across the country.

So to in an attempt to cheer myself up (and in honor of this lovey-dovey, pink and red day) I have decided to make overnight Swiss oatmeal and have a red-themed breakfast of a rolled oats made with with 1/4 cup water1/4 cup skim milk, a couple spoonfuls of plain yogurt, and dried cranberries…with a huge mug of orange-mango rooibos (a.k.a red) tea and an apple on the side. Very clever, no?

It wasn’t quite as thick as usual and I’m guessing it’s because I used to much water/milk. I didn’t feel like I put an excess amount in when I was making it last night, but it was also 1:00 in the morning, so who knows what really happened.

I was planning on having an English muffin with jam this morning but my stomach was asking for oatmeal, so that’s what it got. And it hit a sweet spot.

My overarching goal for today is simply to not over-eat. I’m going to pay most attention to making sure I get enough protein and enough water because those seem to be my main issues lately (two-a-days take a lot out of your system). This frenzy of goal making came about because last night, after my dinner post, things got a bit out of hand…not quite a binge but I was clearly eating for reasons other than hunger. Not good. I must break the habit before it truly becomes a habit again.

And now I am off to the grocery store. Wish me fun!
